Multimedia combines attractive computer graphics, video, animation, sound and special effects within one computer program. Some of the more widely spread multimedia products are, for example, learning programs, interactive company presentations, yearbooks (on CD-s) and info-booth software – building guides, presentations on business fairs, etc.
Although the structure of a multimedia solution may often be similar to that of an Internet homepage, the relevant programs allow a considerably wider use of the newest developments in computer graphics.
Main merits of multimedia
When using a multimedia program, one becomes more engrossed than while simply reading or listening and, as a result, embraces the information more readily. Multimedia is consumer-configurable; its interactivity allows one to pick only interesting subjects and to set a convenient time and pace for viewing the content.
A multimedia program can be recorded on a CD, the replication of which is dozens of times cheaper than the printing of a book, but which can hold as much information as a multi-volume encyclopedia. CD-R is an excellent sales tool, and since it's small, it's easy to mail, carry about or give as a present. A PC is all that is needed for viewing it, yet it allows to conduct large-scale presentations.
DT and multimedia
Unfortunately, "multimedia" is a relatively vague and blurry term under which most computer graphics-related services and products can be shelved. Thus it must be specified that DT focuses on Internet-related multimedia solutions, which in practice means mostly programs executed with Flash/ActionScript and Director/Lingo -technologies.
